25 Years - The SCHUMANN Experience

Since its foundation in 1997 SCHUMANN has developed from a small startup with three employees to an international market leader for credit risk management. The software company celebrated this 25-year success story with a conference and a jubilee celebration in Göttingen. Around 200 invited guests from Germany and abroad used the opportunity for an exchange of information and experiences across many industries.

Under the heading "25 years – The SCHUMANN Experience" the company celebrated its 25th anniversary on 15th and 16th June 2023 with a conference and a jubilee party in Göttingen. On the second day, in-depth workshops took place. Around 200 participants, well-known experts, industry leaders and practitioners from Germany and England took the opportunity to exchange information and experiences in-person again after a three-year break due to the pandemic.

Honouring Long-standing Customers

One of the highlights was the honouring of long-standing customers, some of whom have been using SCHUMANN solutions since the beginning in 1997. Among those honoured were Zurich Insurance, customers for 25 years, the financial services company abcfinance and Henrich Baustoffhandel GmbH, both of whom have been relying on software from SCHUMANN for 15 years. In his acceptance speech, Stefan Herschel, Head of Credit Lines at Zurich, said "Credit management has developed enormously over the past 25 years and technological advances, the global financial crisis as well as the changing regulatory landscape have caused fundamental changes. We are pleased that with SCHUMANN we have an innovative and constantly solution-orientated partner at our side with whom we are also excellently positioned for the future."

Looking Back

As Professor of Business Informatics at the University of Göttingen, Prof. Dr. Matthias Schumann developed software that functioned as an expert system and was able to automate processes based on individual rules and evaluate data according to its characteristics. The area of application for credit management processes quickly became apparent. In 1997 Dr. Martina Städtler-Schumann took over the management of the newly formed limited company. "The automation of processes was our main business right from the start, complemented by integration into the respective company's IT landscape with the use of interfaces", explained Managing Director Dr. Martina Städtler-Schumann. The Business graduate previously worked for her parents' consulting and software firm and continues to chair the company today.

Since the year 2000 the company has been growing constantly. In the meantime SCHUMANN has its headquarters with 2800 square metres of space in the "Urban Quarter" of the GVZ Göttingen and employs 200 members of staff. It has a subsidiary in London and branches in Leipzig and Porto.

Looking Ahead

At this year's conference it also became clear that many changes in credit management are to be expected in the coming years. For example, the increasing possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and machine learning will change technologies and processes. Equally, the importance of user-friendly, digitalized processes is increasing. The functions and speed that people are used to in their private lives are now expected in a business context. Added to this are the constantly increasing regulatory requirements, which companies cannot meet without automation. "With our solutions, companies from diverse industries are well-positioned. We are constantly investing in new developments and in the coming years we will maintain our pioneering role with new innovations and continue to drive the digitalization of credit management forward", declared Städtler-Schumann.

The SCHUMANN Conference will take place again in 2024, covering the latest trends and demonstrating solutions to the current challenges.
